Air and water must stay in balance
The air cushion in a pressure tank allows stored water to move through the plumbing before the pump starts again. When that cushion is lost, usable drawdown shrinks and the pump may cycle too often.
Confirm the tank before adding air
Bladder, diaphragm, and older air-over-water tanks do not all use the same procedure. Power, water pressure, and precharge must be handled in the correct order. A damaged tank will not be fixed by adding air.

For detailed homeowner information, use How to Air-Charge Your Pressure Tank. Stop and call Aqua if a breaker trips, the tank leaks, the procedure does not match your equipment, or pressure does not return to normal.
When to ask about air charging
- The well pump starts after small water draws
- Pressure changes rapidly at fixtures
- A compatible tank has lost its air cushion
- A drawdown test points to a tank issue
What is included
- Tank type and condition confirmation
- Pressure and precharge checks
- Air charging when appropriate
- Pump cycling verification after service
