Plan before treatment
Set aside water for drinking and essential needs. Protect treatment equipment and follow the instructions for the specific well and plumbing system.
Contact time and flushing
Chlorinated water must reach the intended plumbing and remain for the required contact period. It then needs to be flushed to a safe discharge location without damaging plants, septic systems, or surface water.
Retest after chlorination
Treatment alone does not confirm safe water. Collect a properly timed follow-up sample and address any well defect that allowed contamination to enter.
