Well system overview

How a Private Water Well Works

The well collects groundwater, the pump moves it, the pressure system controls delivery, and the buried line connects the source to the building.

The well and pump

Well construction reaches a water-bearing formation and protects the opening from surface contamination. The pump moves water toward the building.

Pressure and controls

The pressure switch starts and stops the pump within a set range. The pressure tank stores usable water and reduces unnecessary pump starts.

Water quality and maintenance

Test water regularly, protect the well head, keep records, and arrange service when operation or water quality changes.
